Temporary browser-to-browser sharing

Free peer-to-peer file sharing and video streaming.

For one-off access to files on this device: add items, send the link, approve each viewer, then close the tab when done.

Important limits

ItsMyServer uses WebRTC for direct browser-to-browser transfer and this server only coordinates the connection. It may not work across corporate firewalls, strict VPNs, locked-down browsers, or networks that block peer-to-peer traffic. There is no TURN relay in this free flow.

Chrome extension

Keep one share link across browser restarts.

Choose a folder once, keep the extension running in Chrome, and reuse the same link instead of creating a new temporary session each time.

Persistent linkYour share reconnects when Chrome starts, so bookmarks and saved links continue to work.
No open website tabThe extension keeps the connection available after its popup closes.
Approval stays with youViewers identify themselves and wait for your approval before file names or content appear.
Direct file transferFiles and media previews travel peer-to-peer through WebRTC instead of being stored on ItsMyServer.
How it works

How to share files between your PC and phone

Use ItsMyServer to send photos, documents, audio, or video between devices without uploading them to cloud storage. Both devices need an internet connection and a compatible browser.

  1. Sign in and choose your files. Verify your email with the emailed code, then add files or a folder on the device that holds them.
  2. Start a share and send the link. Open the link on your phone, another computer, or a recipient's browser.
  3. Approve the viewer. The recipient enters a name and waits for your approval before seeing the shared files.
  4. Download or stream. Approved viewers can save files or preview supported audio and video. Keep the host browser open and connected while sharing.

For a reusable folder link, use the ItsMyServer Chrome extension. Direct WebRTC connections can be blocked by some networks; see the sharing FAQ for limitations.

FAQ

Privacy-first sharing, without buying more cloud storage.

Is it free to use?

Yes. ItsMyServer is completely free of charge for this browser-to-browser sharing flow. Optional contributions help cover the server and fund ongoing development.

Are files uploaded to ItsMyServer?

No. ItsMyServer coordinates the connection and approval flow and processes operational metadata such as connection status, IP address, and browser information. File names are disclosed only after approval. File content is transferred browser-to-browser using encrypted WebRTC and is not stored on this server.

Why is this privacy oriented?

You choose the files in your browser, approve each new viewer, and can end access by closing the host tab. There is no shared cloud folder left behind.

Can it avoid cloud storage costs?

Yes for temporary sharing. You are using your own device and network instead of paying for extra hosted storage just to pass a file to someone.

Does video or audio preview download the whole file?

Media preview streams byte ranges where the browser supports it. Saving the file still transfers the full file to the viewer browser.

When will it not work?

Strict corporate firewalls, locked-down browsers, VPNs, or networks that block peer-to-peer traffic can prevent direct WebRTC transfer. The free flow does not use a TURN relay.

How is the Chrome extension different?

The website creates temporary shares that end when the host tab disconnects. The Chrome extension keeps one folder and one persistent link available while Chrome is running, reconnects after browser restarts, and lets you pause or change the folder from the extension popup.
