Important limits

ItsMyServer uses WebRTC for direct browser-to-browser transfer and this server only coordinates the connection. It may not work across corporate firewalls, strict VPNs, locked-down browsers, or networks that block peer-to-peer traffic. There is no TURN relay in this free flow.

Soon to come

Extension-based persistent file sharing for people who want a longer-running browser share without keeping this page open.

FAQ

Privacy-first sharing, without buying more cloud storage.

Is it free to use?

Yes. ItsMyServer is completely free of charge for this browser-to-browser sharing flow. If people want to support the project, we may add an optional donate button later.

Are files uploaded to ItsMyServer?

No. The server coordinates the connection and approval flow. File content is transferred browser-to-browser using WebRTC and is not stored on this server.

Why is this privacy oriented?

You choose the files in your browser, approve each new viewer, and can end access by closing the host tab. There is no shared cloud folder left behind.

Can it avoid cloud storage costs?

Yes for temporary sharing. You are using your own device and network instead of paying for extra hosted storage just to pass a file to someone.

Does video or audio preview download the whole file?

Media preview streams byte ranges where the browser supports it. Saving the file still transfers the full file to the viewer browser.

When will it not work?

Strict corporate firewalls, locked-down browsers, VPNs, or networks that block peer-to-peer traffic can prevent direct WebRTC transfer. The free flow does not use a TURN relay.

Will persistent sharing be supported?

Soon to come: extension-based persistent file sharing. The current version is intentionally temporary and ends when the host browser tab disconnects.
